REMEMBERING

JUNE 2026
A True Original
Nigel Cabourn
1949-2026
Aged 77

Nigel Cabourn was renowned for his distinctive approach to menswear, drawing inspiration from vintage military, workwear and outdoor clothing. Celebrated for his meticulous attention to detail and commitment to quality craftsmanship,

he built a global reputation for creating timeless garments that combined heritage design with modern functionality.

His collections were admired for their authenticity, durability and storytelling, earning him a devoted following around the world.
The outpouring of tributes following the death of Nigel Cabourn tells its own story.
From fashion capitals to North East market towns, from industry leaders to lifelong friends, people have shared memories of a man whose influence reached far beyond the clothes he designed. Their words speak not only of an internationally respected creative talent, but of a warm, generous and deeply grounded individual who never forgot where he came from.

In an age when success is often measured by profile and celebrity, Nigel Cabourn represented something different. He built a global reputation without losing sight of his roots. Proud of his North East heritage, he carried the values of the region throughout a remarkable career that spanned decades and earned admiration across the world.

His designs became synonymous with authenticity, craftsmanship and attention to detail. Yet for many of those paying tribute, it is not the garments they remember most. It is the man behind them.
Again and again, the messages shared over recent days have highlighted Nigel's kindness, humility and generosity of spirit.

People recall chance meetings that became lasting friendships, words of encouragement offered to young creatives, and a genuine interest in everyone he encountered. These are qualities that cannot be manufactured, marketed or branded. They are simply the mark of a good person.
The North East has produced many innovators, entrepreneurs and creative talents, but few have combined international acclaim with such a strong sense of place. Nigel Cabourn showed that it is possible to achieve global success while remaining fiercely proud of your local identity. In doing so, he became an ambassador not only for British design but for the region he loved.

The tributes continue to arrive from near and far, each adding another thread to the rich tapestry of a life well lived. Together they paint a picture of a man who inspired admiration through his work and affection through his character.

That is perhaps the greatest legacy anyone can leave.

Nigel Cabourn will be remembered as a pioneering designer and a creative force. But judging by the voices of those who knew him, he will be remembered even more fondly as a gentleman, a friend and a true North East original.
A Very heartwarming post from the team at RE:BOURN

RE:BOURN founded by Nigels Daughter Sophie Cabourn

Some people leave behind a legacy in what they built.

Others leave it in the way they lived.

Nigel Cabourn somehow managed to do both.

Creative, outspoken and endlessly kind, he inspired more people than he ever realised — none more so than us.

We were incredibly lucky to have his love, support and larger-than-life presence.

We used to call him The Tornado…

He would arrive with a whirlwind of ideas, stories and laughter, turning everything upside down in the very best way. But Wherever he went, he left things better than he found them — more smiles, more inspiration and a fresh perspective — before disappearing as quickly as he had arrived, onto the next adventure.
Amoungst many things he taught us…
Work hard.
Be kind to people.
See beauty.
Create differently.
Laugh loudly.
Travel always.
Love deeply.

Shake their hand.
Look them in the eye.
And smile.

Inspire forever, Nige.

Yesterday we made the tough decision to go ahead with tonight’s launch event, because ultimately its what Nige would have wanted. He would have loved this weekend. We are hoping to see some naughty Cabourn pieces on show from people this weekend in his honour. There will be no website drop today.

Sleep well Mad Dog, we all love you ❤️
